Six Decades of Sailing Passion at Club Nàutic S’Arenal
The Club Nàutic S’Arenal (CNA) officially presented the 60th edition of the Gran Día de la Vela – Bufete Frau, one of the most iconic and historic regattas in the Balearic Islands.
This anniversary marks six decades of passion for sailing, camaraderie, and healthy competition, as highlighted by the club’s president, José Ramón Picó.
“Sixty years of passion for sailing, of fair competition and fellowship among all who share a love for the sea,” said Picó during the official presentation at the CNA headquarters.
Over 580 boats and a historic anniversary
The 60th edition of the regatta will take place from August 24 to September 1, 2024, filling the Bay of Palma with sails and excitement.
More than 580 boats and sailors from nine Spanish regions will take part — from young talents to elite competitors, representing the best of national sailing.
The event will feature competitions across multiple classes:
Optimist, 420, ILCA 6, ILCA 4, Open IQ Foil, Techno 293, Formula Windsurf, Musto Skiff, and — returning after several years — the Acces adaptive sailing class.
Additionally, there will be ORC Cruiser and Lateen Sail races, a 60th Anniversary Commemorative Regatta, and the XXI Sa Milla CNA – Cala Blava open-water swim, whose proceeds will go to local charitable causes.
Six decades of history and excellence
During the presentation, CNA’s president José Ramón Picó and general manager Ferran Muniesa reflected on the legacy of this milestone event.
“This anniversary is much more than a number,” said Muniesa. “It’s the reflection of tradition, effort, and commitment from so many people who made the Gran Día de la Vela an essential event in Spain’s sailing calendar.”
The regatta has grown to become a symbol of the end of summer in Mallorca, maintaining its spirit of teamwork, passion, and community over the decades.
“Since its creation, the Gran Día de la Vela – Bufete Frau has been much more than a competition — it’s a tradition that unites sailors, families, and sailing enthusiasts,” added Picó.
A partnership rooted in shared values
